Presentation Tools Analysis

            Prezi is a presentation tool that is an alternate choice from other presentation tools such as PowerPoint or Keynote, but with Prezi you can collaborate with other users.  Prezi was created in 2008 by Kitchen Budapest and Magyar Telekom.  Prezi is a great and professional presentation tool that can be used in all sorts of different aspects.  For business use, you can use it for a professional presentation at your work place.  If your boss asks you to do a presentation in front of your coworkers, you won’t be embarrassed because of the advanced functionality of Prezi.  Other uses can be if you are presenting as a motivational speaker or a guest speaker in a school. 

Prezi is also good for social and recreational purposes as well.  It can be used by students to collaborate with other students and teachers on a project.  This works very well on a group assignment as you don’t all have to be in the same room to work on it.

Prezi can be used by a news station as a new way to present the news.  Multiple news anchors can edit it from different locations and when it’s time to air, everything will be ready. 

In the entertainment business, Prezi is not as popular.  Not many entertainers use presentation tools for their jobs, so in all actuality it would not be that useful.

Facebook and Other Social Medias Critical Analysis

Facebook is an online social networking device that was created in 2004 by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg.  Initially, it was created where only Harvard students could join and be in contact with fellow students.  It was later expanded to all other Ivy League schools, schools in the Boston area, and to Stanford.  Now anyone over the age of 13 can create an account.

Businesses used Facebook as a key way to advertise when it was at the peak of popularity.  Companies would create their own page and would post advertisements, which is how Facebook mad a majority of their profits.  Facebook is a great place to advertise because nearly 51% of internet users use Facebook at least once a month. 

People also use Facebook socially.  Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with close friends and see what they have been up too.  “Facebook Stalking” has become a popular term that describes people looking at other people’s page and seeing what they have been posting. 

Entertainment is a big part of Facebook as well.  Facebook has games that its users can play and share with your friends.  Also, a lot of apps on your I-Phone allow you to share your score to Facebook so that all of your friends can see how you are doing.  Connecting your account to the games your play has become a lot more common over the past few years. 

 News channels also have their own facebook pages.  Instead of having to go on their website or turn the T.V. on to be up to date on society, you can go on their facebook pages to see what has been happening.  This is a much easier way to stay up to date. 

Lastly, people also use Facebook recreationally.  People like to post pictures of a vacation you went on or just of a nice day you had so other people can see.  You can also post what you are doing at any time during the day.  A big thing people do is “Like” other people’s posts or pictures.  Facebook has been a great way to link everyone together.

Twitter Analysis

            Twitter is a social networking site that has been growing in popularity over the past few years.  On twitter, you are able to send short messages called “tweets” to other people that you follow.  It was created in 2006 and grew to 500 million users by the year 2012.  Those 500 million users tweet an average of 340 million times a day.  It was originally created as a small group messaging site for people to communicate with each other.  Twitters popularity first spiked during a conference in 2007 in which the average tweets per day went from 20,000 to 60,000.  Twitter is mainly used for social reasons where peers can “tweet” at each other throughout the day.  Twitter also allows you to post pictures and videos. A negative aspect about the social use is that it does tend to lead to cyber bullying.  Cyber bullying has become an offense that schools have targeted and have deemed to be unacceptable.  Many students have been suspended throughout the country due to their posts on twitter.  One student even had his admission revoked due to a post. 

People also use Twitter as a way to promote their businesses.  Promotions are very common to find on Twitter, and sometimes you don’t even have to follow the company in order to see them.  If your company is on twitter, it is important to start following people so they can follow you back.  If you don’t have followers, not many people will be able to see all of your promotions.  A key to being able to promote your business on twitter is being able to get “retweets”.  If someone retweets their promotion, all of their followers will see it and their brand name will grow. 

Twitter is also used for entertainment, news and recreational activities.  For entertainment such as sporting events or movies, people will frequently advertise that a movie is coming out or a game is on tonight, which will cause more people to go and see it.  If you can’t see it, some twitter accounts will post a play-by-play of the game.  From a news standpoint, some big time news studios will have a twitter account, and from their will post the news.  This is more efficient so people will not have to go to the T.V. to watch.   Recreationally, twitter is used to have your voice be heard.  Some people, however, can get offended if they don’t get a lot of favorites, which can lead to depression in some cases.
